Anthony was born in Queens, New York, and moved to Philadelphia at the age of 18. It was there that he began attending community cultural events where he was first introduced to the powerful traditions of Bomba and Plena music and dance from Puerto Rico. The energy, history, and deep cultural roots of these Afro-Puerto Rican traditions immediately resonated with him and sparked a lifelong passion.

Determined to learn and honor the art form, Anthony dedicated himself to studying Bomba and Plena through workshops and cultural exchanges with respected practitioners both locally and from outside the region. His journey of learning also brought him to Puerto Rico on many occasions, where he was able to experience the traditions directly in their homeland and connect with the communities that continue to preserve them.

Through years of study, participation, and community engagement, Anthony developed a deep understanding and respect for the cultural significance of Bomba and Plena as living traditions that tell the stories of Puerto Rico’s African and Taíno heritage.

In 2012, Anthony founded Los Bomberos De La Calle, a Philadelphia-based cultural group dedicated to preserving, performing, and sharing the vibrant traditions of Bomba and Plena. As the owner and director, he leads the group in creating meaningful cultural experiences that bring people together through rhythm, dance, storytelling, and community celebration.

Continuing his commitment to cultural preservation and education, Anthony founded the PhillyBombaPlena Cultural Center in 2024, creating a dedicated space in Philadelphia for the teaching, performance, and celebration of Bomba and Plena traditions. The center serves as a cultural hub where community members of all ages can learn about Afro-Puerto Rican music, dance, and history through workshops, events, and community gatherings.

Under Anthony’s direction, Los Bomberos De La Calle has performed at community festivals, cultural institutions, educational programs, private events, and traditional gatherings. The group is also known for hosting lively jam sessions and participating in holiday parrandas, keeping Puerto Rican musical traditions alive within the diaspora.

Through their performances, educational work, and community engagement, Anthony and Los Bomberos De La Calle continue to uplift culture, educate audiences, and share the soulful rhythms and vibrant spirit of Bomba and Plena music from Puerto Rico with communities throughout Philadelphia and beyond.
